Our Properties

NCHC has a number of properties situated in north Camden - all within an approximate one-mile radius of Kentish Town.

The properties are mostly Victorian street houses, which were acquired and converted into flats in the early 1980s.  Some of the properties are now in designated Conservation Areas.  Predominantly the accommodation is one bedroom flats although we do have a small number of two and three bedroom properties.  In addition TANC commissioned a new-build block of 15 flats, which was completed in 1983.  The block, Carlton Chapel House, was built to a striking design by Christopher Dean Associates and was well received by the architectural press of the time.

In 2019 NCHC sympathetically redeveloped Carlton Chapel House in line with passivhaus principles. This has significantly reduced energy consumption and lowered heating and hot water bills by up to 90% for tenants.  The redesign  should greatly reduce maintenance costs for the future.

The redevelopment of Carlton Chapel House was a major undertaking for NCHC.  The drive behind the decision came from members’ enthusiasm to create social housing that is more environmentally friendly, addresses fuel poverty and is fit for the future.
