Welcome to NORTH CAMDEN HOUSING CO-OP
North Camden Housing Co-operative (NCHC) is a fully mutual Co-operative registered with the Housing Corporation to provide low-cost rented housing. It owns the freehold of 28 properties in North Camden with 106 permanent dwellings in management. It currently has 113 housed members. NCHC & ICHC - Background
North Camden and Islington Community Housing Co-ops have been working closely together since March 2002. Initially they started with a shared staffing arrangement. In July 2004 they decided to move to a single office space located on the border of Camden and Islington. The office is near Archway and is central to the areas of operation of both Co-ops. The housing stock of both Co-ops is principally converted Victorian street properties, rehabilitated between 1978 - 2005. NCHC has one new building development. ICHC has two energy efficient new building schemes. North Camden Housing Co-operative is the registered name of the Tenants Association of North Camden Co-operative following the merger with Camden Peoples Housing Co-operative in January 2000. Tenants Association of North Camden Housing Co-operative (TANC) - TANC was registered with the Housing Corporation in 1981. It was set up to provide housing principally for single people and childless couples through the acquisition and conversion of dilapidated privately rented accommodation. It has developed 106 flats in 28 properties between 1981 and 2005 using Housing Association Grant and loans. Camden Peoples Housing Co-operative (CPHC-TANC Merger) - Islington Community Housing Co-operative ICHC was registered in 1977. It grew out of the short-life housing group, Islington Housing Co-op, now known as Alamo Housing Co-op. ICHC was set up to provide secure housing at a reasonable rent for single people and one-parent families in the Borough of Islington. Funded by the Housing Corporation, ICHC has developed 29 properties between 1981 - 1992 to provide 104 flats, half of which are in a single street in N19. The Co-ops do not have an open housing waiting list, but take nominations from LB Islington, LB Camden and referrals from two short life housing organisations. Both co-ops decide policy at General Meetings which are held several times a year. The operational management of each Co-op is decided by Management Committees which meets every month. There are also sub-committees for Maintenance, Finance and Allocations which meet regularly and report back to the Management Committee. Working Groups are set up when necessary. Members are encouraged to participate in the Co-op and communication between members is facilitated by Quarterly Newsletters. |
